China Southern partners with Thales to offer next-gen IFEC
China Southern will install the TopSeries AVANT IFEC system on all 10 of its B77-300ERs, which will enter service over the next two years.

China Southern has taken delivery of its first Boeing 777-300ER equipped with Thales’ fourth-generation TopSeries AVANT in-flight entertainment and connectivity (IFEC) system.

The Chinese carrier already offers Thales’ IFEC systems on its A330s, but the new B777-300ER is the first aircraft of its type to be equipped with the new system. The delivery follows the recent announcement that Turkish Airlines will equip 45 of its single-aisle aircraft with the TopSeries AVANT IFEC platform.

Offering content in five languages – English, Simplified Chinese, French, Japanese and Korean – the system offers passengers on-demand movies and television programmes, 3D maps, games, flight connection information, e-books, e-shopping and a photo viewer. Passengers can also use it to carry out passenger surveys.

Zhang Zifang, Chief Operating Officer, China Southern, said: “These aircraft play a crucial role in our international growth strategy and being the launch customer for the AVANT system is an important move for us to offer an advanced experience to our passengers.”
