British Airways has released its first iPad app, which includes a number of features designed to simplify the pre-travel and day of travel experiences. Passengers can use the app to search British Airways’ destinations and flight prices on an interactive 3D globe and they can create an in-flight entertainment (IFE) viewing itinerary before travelling.

Executive Club members can view their frequent flyer status and book flights using their Avios points, and additionally check their flight status, check-in, view destination weather forecasts and download their boarding pass. The bar-coded boarding pass is displayed in each of the iPad’s four corners to make it as easy as possible to scan the digital boarding pass at the airport.

Sarah Dunham, Head of Marketing Retail and Direct Channels, British Airways said: “Our customers are always on the move and are often pressed for time, so designing an app for iPad users made perfect sense.

“Now they can use the same functions that appear on our smartphone app, with some new extra features, on a wider and even more user-friendly screen. The new app is the latest move to make the travelling experience easier and smoother for British Airways customers.”

The launch of the iPad app is the latest element of British Airways’ digital investment. The carrier also offers an Apple Watch app and Apple Pay support on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus devices, and recently revealed that the number of bookings made through the iPhone app increased by 100% in 2015 alone.
