Virgin America announces new app with Spotify integration

The app is co-designed by Work + Co, which also helped with the Virgin America website refresh in 2014.

Two years after the airline refreshed its website, Virgin America has decided to release an app that builds on that design and offers an easy-to-use and personalised experience for passengers. The app lets you book flights, check-in and get a mobile boarding pass.

In addition, travellers can receive flight alerts and can see their Elevate points total. It tries to offer a personalised experience for the user by recognising favourite destinations and providing bespoke flight deals.

The Spotify integration means that Virgin America travellers will get a “first of its kind trip soundtrack” based on their destination. This should also mean that if passengers have a multi-leg journey, they will be able to listen to multiple playlists.

The app is still in beta, with a full release set for later in the summer on Android and iOS. A number of Elevate members and other frequent flyers on the airline will be helping with the beta testing.

Travellers who want to join in the testing can register their interest on this sign-up page.
