Athens Airport offers flight updates and ancillary services via Facebook Messenger bot

The ATH Messenger bot offers real-time flight updates, retail offers and a booking function for airport car parking.

Athens International Airport has introduced a bespoke Facebook Messenger bot, which passengers can use to access flight and travel related information in real-time.

Using Facebook Messenger, passengers can receive flight updates, retail offers and a variety of ancillary services, such as airport car parking, which can be booked using the app.

George Demetriades, Director of Information Systems and Telecommunications Business Unit at Athens International Airport, explained: “The bots are programmes that perform a specific task in an automated manner where human intervention is not necessary.

“It is an application that will revolutionise the way we use our smartphones because the more it evolves, the more it reduces the use of many different applications, as with a simple command we will be able to perform everything we want via the Facebook Messenger.”

FTE reported earlier this year on how the “democratisation” of bots is creating new customer service opportunities for airlines and airports.
