Eighty of the Auto Bag Drop systems are already in operation at six Australian airports. The innovation will be presented in Asia for the first time at FTE Asia 2012.

ICM Airport Technics will exhibit its Auto Bag Drop innovation at FTE Asia 2012, Kuala Lumpur, 8-10 February.

This self check-in facility, including full-service baggage drop, is designed to increase check-in capacity and availability while decreasing operational costs. The flexible and modern design bestows confidence in a new development in civil aviation. Its look is fully customisable.

The Qantas ICM Bag Drop System uses a two-step method. Passengers check in via a kiosk or online. This first step consists of time-consuming processes e.g. choice of seat or printing of boarding card. The second step, the baggage check-in time is thus reduced to between 15-45 seconds, depending on the passenger’s experience.

Together with Qantas, ICM Airport Technics has developed a new self-service Bag Drop System. Eighty of these systems are already in operation at six Australian airports. For the first time in Asia, the system will be introduced at FTE Asia 2012 in Kuala Lumpur.

IER will unveil at Future Travel Experience Asia a unique concept to enhance the self-scanning experience for passengers.

The innovative self-scanning concept is based on an IER Podium Gate Reader, which has been designed to accommodate an agent’s operations during the boarding process.

This new approach to process boarding allows two additional boarding lanes to be positioned side-by-side, operating in a self-service mode under the remote control of the agent. The agent is at the traditional boarding gate counter to treat exceptions while supervising the two self-boarding lanes.

IER’s podium, which is both ergonomic and aesthetic, integrates light and sound replication and indicates the status of boarding process to staff. The agent responsible for the boarding can easily monitor one or two Podium Gate Readers to achieve a secure and fast boarding process.

This concept of self-boarding is based on the IER 602, the latest IER barcode scanner generation.

Next generation passenger processing

The IER 602 is the advanced, versatile scanner that takes your airport or airline operation into the next generation of passenger processing. By incorporating flat bed multi-format barcode reading with RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) and NFC (Near Field Communication) reading technology into a scanner with a bright active LCD display, IER delivers the ideal product for reading mobile devices and enabling passenger self-scanning.

Malaysia Airports will offer FTE Asia delegates an exclusive tour of the site of the new klia2 low-cost carrier terminal, which is currently under construction.

Following a briefing by members of its management team on the design and IT strategies for klia2 – the major new low-cost carrier facility that is due to open next year – Malaysia Airports will take delegates to the construction site so they can see the facility taking shape and get an exclusive preview of what is in store for passengers and tenants.

As the world’s largest purpose-built terminal for LCC’s, klia2 will cover an area of 257,000sqm and will be able to handle 45 million annual passengers. It will feature 68 contact stands and eight remote stands, and will be served by a 4km runway with provision for A380 operations.

Mikael Lind, Project Manager Future Airports at Viktoria Institute, Sweden will deliver a presentation entitled ‘Future airport innovations and collaborations to enhance door-to-door experiences’.

We are delighted to announce that Mikael Lind, Project Manager Future Airports at Viktoria Institute, Sweden, will deliver the Day 2 keynote presentation at Future Travel Experience Asia 2012, 8-10 February, Kuala Lumpur.

Mikael’s presentation will focus on ‘Future airport innovations and collaborations to enhance door-to-door experiences’, exploring the conception and benefits of a door-to-door perspective on passenger flow processes and management, models and methods for active collaboration, digital innovations, and measurement systems for managing door-to-door processes.

Future Airports is a Swedish collaborative research and innovation project between Viktoria Institute, Swedavia, Stockholm-Arlanda Airport, and the Swedish Transport Administration.

Passengers simply enrol their iris once and when the arrive at the KABA Self-Boarding Gate, the iris camera captures, reads and matches the specific traveller’s iris to the system. Only if the passenger is valid for that flight will the Self-Boarding Gate open for the passenger to board.

ARINC

AT FTE Asia 2012, ARINC will invite delegates to experience the latest technologies and applications that are driving airport operation.
