First self-service shop opens at AMS’ Schiphol Plaza

The broad product offer in Gate 24/7 is intended to cater to Schiphol Plaza’s diverse customer base. This includes food and drink, beauty products, electronics, and last-minute necessities. Customers can select their choice and use contactless payment at the vending machines.

The first self-service shop has opened at Schiphol Plaza. Called Gate 24/7, the shop has 10 vending machines, each containing a different range of products. The selection of items comes from eight retailers already located at Schiphol Plaza.

As the name suggests, the shop is open 24/7, with the broad product offer intended to cater to Schiphol Plaza’s diverse customer base. This includes food and drink, beauty products, electronics, and last-minute necessities. Customers can select their choice and use contactless payment at the vending machines.

The first self-service shop, called Gate 24/7, has opened at Schiphol Plaza. Its 10 vending machines each contain a different range of products from eight retailers already located at Schiphol Plaza.

“Schiphol closely follows technological developments in retail,” said Carla Laurs-Hoogvorst, Retail Manager, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. “We believe that this is the future. The priority is to offer our visitors speed and convenience, and this new shop and service responds to that in a way that is accessible for our visitors and partners. Whether you’re going to work, making a connection, departing or arriving, anyone who needs to make a last-minute purchase can go to this shop.”

Schiphol previously tested a similar concept – the digital Albert Heijn shop on Jan Dellaertplein (the square outside Schiphol Plaza) – which received a positive response from visitors. Gate 24/7 will be a pilot of at least six months. After that, Schiphol will evaluate the results and decide whether or not to extend the pilot. The shop has been constructed in collaboration with Intos Interior Design and DGA Vending.
