Perth Airport partners with Bechtel to deliver ‘One Airport’ vision to enhance efficiency and CX

Perth Airport is partnering with Bechtel on the Implementation Phase of its ‘One Airport’ vision. The complex and ambitious infrastructure program “will deliver greater efficiency and a better travel experience for passengers”.

Summary:

  • Perth Airport accelerates multi-billion-dollar transformation, appointing Bechtel as Capital Portfolio Partner for the Implementation Phase of its integrated ‘One Airport’ vision.
  • Major aviation infrastructure projects advance in a live operating environment, including a new runway, terminal expansions, digital self-service check-in, upgraded road networks, car parks, and Perth Airport’s first onsite hotel.
  • Program delivery focuses on passenger experience, airline efficiency, and long-term growth, supporting forecasts of 30 million passengers by 2046 and a $17 billion annual contribution to Western Australia’s economy.

Perth Airport has progressed significantly with construction and planning of its multi-billion-dollar investment in critical aviation infrastructure to support Western Australia’s growth.

In early 2025, Perth Airport partnered with Bechtel as its Capital Portfolio Partner to establish governance, tools, and processes to integrate the projects and set the program up for success.

Bechtel has now been appointed as the Capital Portfolio Partner for the Implementation Phase, forming an integrated team with Perth Airport to manage design and delivery of construction projects across a live operating airport environment.

“Bechtel will work side-by-side with our team, providing specialist advice and supporting the delivery of our complex and ambitious infrastructure program,” said Perth Airport CEO Jason Waters. “This is an exciting time for Perth Airport as momentum picks up on a range of critical projects including a new runway, new terminal facilities, two multi-storey car parks, significant upgrades to the road networks and the establishment of our first-ever hotel. This will result in the long-held vision for One Airport which will deliver greater efficiency for airlines and a better travel experience for passengers. At the same time, we have launched a number of important projects in current facilities to ensure the customer experience is enhanced. This includes an expansion of Terminal 2, a major overhaul of the retail and food & beverage offering and introducing 95 additional self-service check-in kiosks within T1. We need to deliver multiple major construction projects in an operational environment at a time when our passenger numbers are continuing to grow rapidly. We have been transparent with the public about these challenges and ask for patience when dealing with the unavoidable disruptions such projects can cause. We forecast that by 2046, we will be facilitating 30 million passengers, generating 75,400 jobs, and contributing $17 billion to the State’s economy annually. So, it is critical that we deliver these projects because when Perth Airport grows, the Western Australian economy grows.”

Bechtel’s Managing Director of Public Infrastructure in Australia Richard Freer added: “I am honoured and proud that Bechtel has been appointed as Capital Portfolio Partner for the Implementation Phase of Perth Airport’s expansion. This major program is a vital investment in Western Australia’s future. We will work as one team with Perth Airport and its contractors to deliver a modern, efficient gateway that strengthens the economy, creates local jobs and opportunities, and enhances the passenger experience – an international hub the State can be proud of.”
