Amadeus – a Gold Sponsor of APEX FTE Asia Expo (Singapore, 11-12 November 2025) – serves airports, airlines, ground handlers and border authorities to better collaborate to deliver superior, shared passenger and operational processes at the airport. In this interview, ahead of his participation at APEX FTE Asia Expo, Sunil Ankalgi, Regional Director, Sales & Account Management, Airports & Border Authorities APAC, shares how Amadeus’ systems manage passenger information throughout the entire journey and are uniquely placed to help their customers work together to deliver a seamless travel experience.

“APEX FTE Asia Expo is an important event, which brings together the travel community for a very valuable exchange of thoughts and experiences related to travel experience,” says Ankalgi. “With so much growth happening in the Asia-Pacific region, participating in APEX FTE Asia Expo is important in order to not only connect with industry peers, airport partners and new prospects, but also to see other new innovations happening in the industry. Amadeus has supported APEX FTE Asia Expo for several years, and we look forward to joining again this year.”
Amadeus recently released a report called ‘Connected journeys: How technology will transform travel in the next decade’, which provides insights to how airports and other industry players can leverage technology to enhance traveller and guest experiences and customer satisfaction, streamline operations and drive growth for the long-term. “The report includes feedback from more than 9,500 travellers across nine markets, including several here in APAC,” Ankalgi explains. “We will be sharing some of these insights, and highlighting some concrete use cases for airports to transform the airport into an experience.”
Collaborating with airlines and airports throughout Asia-Pacific to bring next-gen tech and greater efficiency
As the only provider serving airlines, airports, ground handlers and border authorities with systems that manage traveller information from check-in to arrival and every aspect of the passenger’s experience, Amadeus is uniquely placed to facilitate greater collaboration and innovation across the entire aviation ecosystem. “We help the industry to connect the dots in a way that improves the traveller experience, unlocks new retailing opportunities and removes cost through more efficient and joined-up aviation operations,” Ankalgi shares. “Through continued investment in platform technology, our AirOps team is working with the industry to build a more connected and personalised aviation experience. An experience underpinned by a common view that moves beyond silos, so airlines, airports and governments can better serve passengers, optimise operations and apply artificial intelligence (AI) based on the industry’s most extensive data assets.”
To deliver seamless journeys Amadeus’ teams are working on the following:
- Upgrading airport touchpoints for a seamless biometric experience and pioneering mobile-first (touch-pointless) experiences – with privacy at its core.
- Building entirely new traveller-centric airline systems that support retailing and personalisation.
- Connecting the dots with a new data ecosystem that simplifies data sharing driven by traveller needs and preferences.
- Rethinking aviation operations with collaborative platforms, common data views and AI.

Amadeus is collaborating with airlines and airports throughout Asia-Pacific to bring next-generation technology and greater efficiency to aviation operations. “By introducing cloud-based platforms, biometric solutions, and integrated data systems, Amadeus helps partners streamline airport processes, improve resource management, and deliver smoother, more personalised journeys for travellers,” says Ankalgi. “Recent initiatives include supporting further biometric border crossings in Australia and deploying end-to-end digital identity solutions at major airports like Narita in Tokyo. These efforts are making travel faster, more secure, and increasingly tailored to individual passenger needs, while also enabling closer cooperation between all stakeholders in the region’s aviation ecosystem.”
The travel industry is one of the most dynamic sectors, and the industry is transforming rapidly because traveller behaviour and expectations are changing at every touchpoint of their journey. And a transforming industry needs transformative technology.
“Technology is the foundation upon which continual transformation is built,” Ankalgi notes. “All of the major trends in technology – whether it is AI, biometrics or cloud – are poised to have significant impact on the travel experience. And to make the experience of travel better for everyone, everywhere, we must think differently. We must harness the full potential of technology and work together to deliver positive impact for both the traveller and our industry. That is our vision at Amadeus.”
By bringing together airports, airlines, ground handlers and border authorities, new technologies can help build a single, synchronised journey for every traveller. “This means creating smarter, more connected airports that can handle growing passenger volumes while adapting to evolving traveller expectations and meeting sustainability goals,” Ankalgi adds.

APEX FTE Asia Expo: “An ideal platform to get together and strengthen collaboration across the ecosystem”
Looking ahead, Ankalgi is eager to participate at the 15th anniversary APEX FTE Asia Expo, taking place in Singapore on 11-12 November 2025. “Technology is the foundation upon which continual transformation is built. And we are currently seeing some of the biggest technology shifts in travel and more broadly that we have seen over the last 25 years. We must be ready to adapt, innovate and leverage technology to power better experience across the entire travel industry. APEX FTE Asia Expo is an ideal platform to do just that – get together and strengthen collaboration across the ecosystem, for the benefit of an enhanced travel experience.”
