Munich Airport expands ‘Chinese Shopping Assistant’ service for enhanced travel experience

Munich Airport is expanding its ‘Chinese Shopping Assistant’ service across all terminals, offering personalised support to Chinese travellers and enhancing retail engagement alongside a smoother passenger journey.

Summary:

  • Munich Airport expands ‘Chinese Shopping Assistant’ service across all terminals to enhance passenger experience.
  • Chinese-speaking staff support retail, navigation, and processes including security, customs and VAT refunds.
  • Initiative strengthens airport retail strategy by improving engagement with high-value Chinese travellers.

Munich Airport – a Partner of the FTE World Ancillary & Retailing Working Group – is significantly expanding its ‘Chinese Shopping Assistant’ service. Starting in April 2026, Chinese passengers departing for major cities such as Shanghai, Beijing, and Hong Kong will benefit from this special service.

Chinese-speaking ‘Shopping Assistants’ will be available not only in Terminal 2, but also in the new Terminal 1 Pier for the first time. This means the service will be offered campus-wide. Trained staff can help with shopping, answer questions about security checks, customs clearance, and VAT refunds, and help with language barriers to make travellers’ time at the airport as pleasant as possible.

“We are delighted to now be able to offer this successful service to our Chinese-speaking guests across all terminals, thereby enhancing their travel experience even further,” said Elke Haeffner, Head of Leasing and Advertising, Munich Airport.

At Munich Airport, travellers can enjoy a diverse range of shopping options featuring international premium brands and convenient travel items. Among the airport’s shops that are particularly popular with Chinese visitors are Tripidi (household goods), BOSS, Moncler, Hilscher Jewelers (featuring Rolex), as well as Breitling and Emporio Armani. The new luxury bags boutique in the Terminal 1 Pier, featuring brands such as Longchamp, Aigner, MCM, and Coach, is also set to become popular. Overall, the airport offers passengers an attractive mix of luxury, lifestyle, and high-quality gift ideas.
