KLM offers free WiFi on European flights as it makes travel “more personal and comfortable”

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is now offering free inflight WiFi to passengers travelling within Europe, marking an important step in enhancing the customer experience as it aims to make travel “more personal and comfortable”.

Summary:

  • KLM introduces free inflight WiFi on European routes, enabling passengers to browse, stream, email and stay connected throughout their journey.
  • Phased rollout delivers complimentary connectivity across the short-haul fleet, with free internet now available on half of KLM’s European aircraft and expansion planned across A321neo, Embraer 195-E2 and B737-800 fleets.
  • Connectivity upgrade enhances passenger experience on aircraft without seatback screens, supporting a more personalised and digitally enabled travel experience.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines – a Corporate Partner of the FTE Digital, Innovation & Startup Hub – is now offering free inflight WiFi to passengers travelling within Europe, marking an important step in enhancing the travel experience. Throughout their flight, passengers can email, browse the internet, listen to music, play games, or stream movies and TV series. With this initiative, KLM is fulfilling a frequently requested feature by its customers.

KLM is rolling out free WiFi in phases across most of the aircraft used for its European routes. Half of the European fleet are now equipped with free internet service. In the coming years, WiFi will be available on all A321neo, Embraer 195-E2, and a portion of the B737-800 aircraft.

KLM’s European fleet does not feature in-seat entertainment screens. By offering complimentary internet, KLM aims to enhance passenger comfort. After logging in or registering as a Flying Blue member, passengers can enjoy unlimited internet access during their flight.

“We listen carefully to what our passengers value and free internet has been on their wish list for some time,” said Stephanie Putzeist, responsible for customer experience at KLM. “Through this step, we are making travel within Europe more personal and comfortable: everyone can plan their flight in their own way and stay connected. We are delighted to realise this now for our passengers.”

KLM has added 12 new A321neo aircraft to its fleet since August last year. These aircraft, which serve European destinations exclusively, are equipped not only with WiFi but also with modern, comfortable seats as part of efforts to ensure the most enjoyable travel experience possible for its passengers.
