Munich Airport unveils new restaurant portfolio in Terminal 1 Pier to elevate passenger dining experience

Munich Airport is introducing five new dining concepts in Terminal 1 Pier, combining premium brands, international cuisine and modern service concepts to create an elevated food and beverage experience for travellers.

Summary:

  • Munich Airport is introducing five new dining concepts in Terminal 1 Pier, operated by airport subsidiary Allresto Flughafen München Hotel und Gaststätten GmbH.
  • The portfolio blends premium brands and international cuisine, including concepts from Käfer and dean&david, alongside Bavarian and global culinary options.
  • The initiative aims to enhance passenger experience with high-quality food, sustainable concepts, modern design and efficient service solutions.

Munich Airport – a Corporate Partner of the FTE Digital, Innovation & Startup Hub and a Partner of the FTE World Ancillary & Retailing Working Group – is developing a completely new dining experience for travellers in the Terminal 1 Pier. The new restaurant portfolio will set clear benchmarks in terms of quality and comfort. The five restaurants are operated by the airport subsidiary Allresto Flughafen München Hotel und Gaststätten GmbH.

“We have developed a range of modern food and beverage concepts that combine high-quality products, sustainability, appealing designs, and the highest level of service,” said Munich Airport Chief Commercial Officer Dr. Jan-Henrik Andersson. “This will make Terminal 1 Pier a feel-good place that reflects our ‘Bavarian soul’ philosophy.”

Käfer

As a true ‘Munich Love Brand’, Käfer has represented exquisite cuisine, trust, and an unmistakable Munich lifestyle for decades. It is now an integral part of the new pier. Around 70 guests can enjoy authentic, soulful cuisine in an exclusive atmosphere. Here, classic cuisine meets modern lightness. Guests can indulge in popular signature dishes, such as beef tartare and Wiener schnitzel, as well as seasonal specialties, all prepared to the highest standards of quality and gourmet cuisine. A particular highlight is the spaghetti ice cream show dessert, which is served from an airplane trolley. The fine dining experience is accompanied by a selection of over 100 German and international wines. An open show kitchen creates a feeling of closeness and transparency.

the ODEON by Käfer

With ‘the ODEON by Käfer’, the Munich-based gourmet brand is expanding its offering in the new Pier with a concept that combines urban bar culture, modern delicacies, and deli accents in an international airport setting. The cuisine focuses on small, high-quality dishes, food to share, and appetisers, complemented by a fresh to-go selection for different travel rhythms – from a quick coffee to an evening drink. The wine list offers an extensive selection of over 100 wines, and the wine climate control glass cabinet, an architectural masterpiece, is visible from outside. The name ‘the ODEON’ deliberately alludes to Munich’s Odéon Square as a place of culture and elegance in Munich. The attribute ‘by Käfer’ clearly anchors the concept in the premium image of the brand. With nearly 90 seats, it creates a space with a special flair where travellers can enjoy both urban sophistication and Käfer quality.

Cucina Popolare

Cucina Popolare reinterprets Italian cuisine. The menu pays homage to what makes Italian cuisine so special: traditional dishes, bold flavours, and a culture of enjoyment characterised by emotion, community, and joie de vivre. Popular classics such as pizza and pasta are presented in a surprisingly new way, while still seeming familiar. Cucina Popolare, meaning ‘people’s cuisine’ embodies the philosophy of down-to-earth, high-quality culinary delights, bringing people together in a cosy atmosphere and creating joy in dining together. With seating for around 120, Cucina Popolare offers plenty of space for a culinary break before or after the flight.

Münchner Leibspeise

The new pier will also be home to a modern, multi-brand food concept called Münchner Leibspeise that combines international cuisine with Munich delicacies. A variety of individually designed food stations – including the popular brand ‘POMMES FREUNDE’ – offer a diverse selection: classic Bavarian roasted half chicken, original Munich white sausages, pulled chicken burgers, Asian dishes, as well as halal, vegetarian, and vegan options. The name ‘Leibspeise’ stands for favourite dishes, a sense of home, and culinary individuality. The concept thus becomes a lively meeting place with an unmistakable Bavarian-Munich character. One hundred seats invite guests to linger. Modern self-order terminals and fast service ensure that guests can enjoy their favourite dishes without enduring long waiting times, whether they choose to dine in or take out.

dean&David

A clear statement for modern, conscious nutrition is now also being made in the public area of the new pier with the opening of the third dean&david location at Munich Airport. The concept stands for fresh, healthy lifestyle cuisine, with freshly prepared salads, bowls, and hot dishes based on premium ingredients. No artificial additives are used. The menu features freshly squeezed juices, smoothies, and specially developed vegan iced teas. The brand name ‘dean&david’ represents a combination of freshness, purity, and the idea of a wholesome diet, as conceived by company founder David Baumgartner. With a little over 60 seats, it is a contemporary place for healthy, quick meals in the public terminal area.
