Malaysia Airports to enhance airport operational excellence

Malaysia Airports continues to champion airport operational excellence through its latest collaboration with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). The organisation has signed a Memorandum of Collaboration (MoC) with the university, embarking on 15 focus areas within the fields of airport operations, engineering, and technology.

The initiative aims to provide continuous improvement and capacity building opportunities in managing Malaysia Airports’ network of airports through the exchange of expertise, ideas, information, technology and innovation.

Managing Director of Malaysia Airports Dato’ Iskandar Mizal Mahmood said: “Other than the pursuit of operational excellence, this collaboration presents opportunities for commercialisation and intellectual property. This way, Malaysia Airports can also play a role in contributing to the country’s aspiration to be among the top 20 of the Global Innovation Index by 2030.”

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Professor Datuk Ts. Dr. Ahmad Fauzi Ismail, stated that “UTM has produced thousands of technocrats in engineering and technological sectors in conjunction with efforts to promote the country’s 4th Industrial Revolution. Our industry partners plays a crucial role for UTM in bringing research findings to prospective graduates who aim to become job creator.”

Prior to this, Malaysia Airports and UTM had collaborated in 2018 to develop the Foreign Object Debris Detection System (FODDS) at KL International Airport (KLIA). This had resulted in the successful implementation of various technology transfer and human capital development strategies between the two parties.
