MIA, United, FRA, TSA, CBP, Star Alliance & more share dynamic approaches to advancing digital identity to deliver next-level customer experiences

One of the key elements that makes FTE events unique is our carefully-curated content. The Future Airports conference track at FTE Global 2023 included the Biometrics & Digital Identity Summit, sponsored by NEC. The fascinating session explored a range of dynamic approaches to advancing digital identity to deliver next-level customer experiences, as well as ideas on how the industry can achieve the vast potential that new digital identity approaches leveraging biometrics can deliver.

Moderated by Maurice Jenkins, Chief Innovation Officer, Miami International Airport, the Biometrics & Digital Identity Summit opened with three insightful presentations:

  • Devon Heyns, Director – Customer Innovation & Solutions, United Airlines, shared how central biometrics are to United’s strategies going forward, and what the airline wants to see from the sector next to help it realise its ambitions in this field.
  • Jens Sanner, Program Director for Digital Services and Transformation, Fraport, outlined the compelling business case for Frankfurt Airport to make one of the largest investments in biometrics to date, and whether it believes all airports should be leveraging digital identity technology to same level.
  • Bill Carleton, Director, Advanced Recognition Systems, NEC Corporation of America, shared how NEC is advancing, and connecting, the worlds of airports, airlines, urban air mobility, cruise & hotels through its digital identify efforts and what needs to happen next to accelerate global progress in this realm.

The session then moved on to a fast-paced panel discussion, also featuring Melissa Conley, Executive Director of Capability Management and Innovation, Transportation Security Administration; Christian Draeger, VP Customer Experience, Star Alliance; Nael Samha, Executive Director, Targeting, Vetting and Biometrics Systems, U.S. Customs and Border Protection; and Forest Beattie, Solution Engineer Senior Manager, SITA.
