Belfast International Airport – part of the network of VINCI Airports (a Corporate Partner of the FTE Digital, Innovation & Startup Hub) – has inaugurated phase one of its £100m five-year investment programme, with a new terminal extension that includes a state-of-the-art security hall using next-generation security equipment, an immersive new duty free experience, as well as enhancements to the arrivals experience including a new external forecourt area.
The first £25 million investment phase, which is now complete, features a transformative 1,600sqm duty free store which combines duty free, food & beverage and travel essentials all under one roof. For the first time, passengers will have access to iconic global brands, as well as beloved local ones.
The new security hall has been purpose-built for growth to ensure the area can adapt with passenger demand and features state-of-the-art next-generation security equipment, meaning passengers no longer have to move liquids or electronics from hand luggage making for a more seamless transition through the security process – the wide-open space provides passengers with a more relaxed experience.
“This first delivery of VINCI Airports’ investment programme to modernise Belfast International Airport improves the passenger experience with state-of-the-art security features and high-quality retail offer,” said Nicolas Notebaert, CEO of VINCI Concessions and President of VINCI Airports. “As the airport plays a pivotal role for aviation, tourism and local economy, VINCI Airports is committed to boosting connectivity and sustainable growth for Northern Ireland.”
