Alaska Airlines has begun a $2.3bn investment in infrastructure upgrades at Seattle-Tacoma, San Francisco, Portland and Los Angeles airports.

The first phase of the $2.3 billion Delta Sky Way features new centralised check-in lobby, expanded security checkpoint and baggage claim.

The $340m project will include an additional 145,530 sq ft of dining and retail space, a new Alaska Airlines Lounge and a range of new amenities.

The new international terminal, set to open in February 2022, will double the airport’s capacity from 15 to 30 million passengers per year.

The $331-million project will include new security checkpoints, additional seating, concession spaces and a business lounge.
