Nice Côte d’Azur Airport leverages retail benefits of beacon technology
Nice Côte d’Azur Airport is using SITA’s beacon technology to send proactive notifications and offers to passengers’ personal devices as they pass through the newly refurbished retail area.

Nice Côte d’Azur Airport is the latest airport to leverage the benefits of beacon technology to provide passengers with location-specific notifications via the airport’s official app.

The new app was launched to coincide with the opening of the airport’s refurbished Terminal 1 retail area, and the use of beacon technology enables the airport to proactively send notifications and offers to passengers in the retail zone.

Airport Premier Club members using the app will automatically earn points as they pass through the airport. Beacon technology will also be implemented in the refurbished Terminal 2 retail area, which will open later this year.

Nice Côte d’Azur Airport has partnered with SITA on the project and is using’s SITA’s Common Use Beacon Registry. Jean-Pierre Torres, Head of IT at Nice Côte d’Azur Airport, said: “Increasingly passengers are demanding more control over their airport experience. They want to personalise the services they receive from the airport to their own requirements or needs.

“SITA’s beacon technology allows us to deliver on this expectation and offer a highly tailored experience to our passengers, in particular our frequent flyers. Indeed this technology will facilitate access to Fast Track Security for Airport Premier Gold members, allowing them to use their frequent flyer card automatically.”

Dave Bakker, SITA President, Europe, added: “With a clear view of who the passengers using the app are and where they are in the airport, Nice Côte d’Azur Airport is able to offer a wide range of tailored services. The airport has recognised this potential and we will continue to work together with the airport team to leverage this technology to further enhance the overall passenger experience at Nice.”
