Lufthansa Group integrates COVID-19 test certificates into digital travel chain

The service will be initially available on Lufthansa flights from Frankfurt to Istanbul and from Newark to Frankfurt and Munich, and will later be extended to SWISS customers on the Newark to Zurich route in March.

Lufthansa Group has announced that passengers on selected flights will have the option of sending COVID-19 test certificates and confirmations of digital entry applications 72 hours before departure.

The service will be initially available on Lufthansa flights from Frankfurt to Istanbul and from Newark to Frankfurt and Munich, and will later be extended to SWISS customers on the Newark to Zurich route in March.

Passengers travelling on these flights will receive advance notification and a link to a portal where the relevant contact data and certificates can be stored and sent to a dedicated Lufthansa Group Health Entry Support Center via a contact form as early as 72 hours before departure.

After the documents are checked at the service centre, the customer receives a confirmation by e-mail, notifying them whether the certificates meet the entry requirements or a feedback if the documents are not sufficient. Customers are required to carry the original certificates throughout the trip.

According to the airline group, the initiative aims to provide Lufthansa and Swiss customers with more security when planning their trip, as well as creating a faster and smoother check-in and boarding experience.

Depending on the findings of the initial trial, Lufthansa Group plans to enable test certificates to be sent for all flights. Digital health passports are also to be integrated into the travel chain in the future, says the group.
