British Airways showcases future of its lounges with brand-new openings in Miami and Dubai

British Airways is celebrating the launch of its new lounge design concept with the opening of two new lounges on its global network, marking a significant step change in the airline’s premium offering.

British Airways – a member of International Airlines Group (a Corporate Partner of the FTE Digital, Innovation & Startup Hub) – is celebrating the launch of its new lounge design concept with the opening of two new lounges on its global network, at Miami International Airport and Dubai International Airport. These mark a significant step change in the airline’s premium offering.

Working in partnership with global architecture and design firm Gensler, these openings debut British Airways’ new design concept that will serve as the vision for future lounge developments.

“We’re thrilled to be unveiling our new design concept with new lounges in both Miami and Dubai,” said Calum Laming, Chief Customer Officer, British Airways. “These unique spaces have been created with our customers in mind and are the next step in our extensive lounge transformation plan. Whether they’re looking to relax, dine, work or enjoy a drink at the fully staffed bar, there’s something for everyone. We’re proud to bring our brand to life in these spaces, having blended our British originality with each destination’s unique character. This approach has allowed us to make the most of brilliant talents from around the world. We’re grateful to all the teams, both within British Airways and our partners, who’ve helped make our vision a reality. We are incredibly excited to welcome our customers to these new lounges.”

Rooted in hospitality, the new design concept establishes a cohesive architectural identity that connects British Airways lounges worldwide. Drawing inspiration from the airline’s heritage and the character of each destination, the spaces are designed to feel welcoming, intuitive, and restorative, creating moments of calm, connection, and delight for customers wherever their journey takes them.

Reflecting the airline’s playful side, ‘look-up’ moments feature across British Airways’ lounges, adding a touch of surprise to the experience. Upon arrival in Miami, for example, guests are greeted by a floor mural that, when viewed through the mirrored ceiling, reveals the words ‘London Calling’ as an homage to the airline’s home.

“We are honoured to have partnered with British Airways to carve the path for the global lounge concept being introduced around the world,” said Ashley Dowell, Design Director, Senior Associate, Gensler. “Hospitality driven and inspired by the heritage of British Airways, combined with the rich vibrancy of each location, the lounges will reflect a global journey framed through a British lens. Welcoming, intuitive and bold, the new lounges offer a surprising retreat for travellers to relax, work and socialise in the midst of their travels.”

Miami – British Airways unveils largest lounge outside London

British Airways has opened a new 13,000 sq ft lounge at Miami International Airport – its largest lounge outside London. Located in Terminal E directly above the departure gate, the space blends British charm with Miami flair, featuring Art Deco design, expansive airfield views, and locally sourced materials. The lounge offers five distinct zones, including a full-service bar, dining area, focus pods, and private seating. The bar serves classic cocktails and local ales, with the Prickly Margarita exclusive to Miami. A self-serve dining area presents locally inspired dishes with a British twist, such as papaya and kale salad and seared South Florida flounder. Guests flying First can access the exclusive Concorde Dining Room, offering à la carte options like Wagyu beef and diver scallops, paired with Champagne and English Sparkling Wine. Shower suites and colourful restrooms inspired by Miami deck chairs provide a refreshing pre-flight reset.

Dubai – British Airways opens new lounge blending British design with UAE flair

British Airways has unveiled a new 5,800 sq ft lounge at Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 1, combining contemporary British design with Middle Eastern elegance. Created by local contractor Al Tayer Stocks, the space features traditional arches, geometric tiles, and a mirrored chandelier ceiling centrepiece. Guests are welcomed into a stylish lounge with artisanal finishes including fluted marble and antique mirrored ceilings. A full-service bar serves as the design focal point, offering signature drinks like the Dubai Chocolate Martini and non-alcoholic Bucks Free Fizz. The self-serve dining area includes an Arabic breakfast, mezze, desserts, and a cheeseboard. Premium Champagnes, English Sparkling Wines, Coffee Planet, and Birchall teas are also available. First Class travellers can access the private Concorde Dining Room via a dedicated entrance, with an à la carte menu featuring Arabic mezze, British favourites like the Concorde Wagyu burger, and desserts such as Umm Ali.
