easyJet and Gatwick launch Mobile Host to simplify airport experience

Mobile Host makes use of live data from Gatwick Airport’s information systems, passengers’ booking details and their real-time location to deliver bespoke information to travellers’ iPhones.

easyJet has partnered with Gatwick Airport on the latest update for its mobile app, which is designed to make the departure and arrival processes as simple as possible.

The feature, called Mobile Host and initially available on iPhone, combines live data from the airport’s information systems with the passenger’s booking details, location and flight time to deliver bespoke updates and directions while the passenger is in the terminal. Among the key features are check-in reminders and confirmation of booked baggage allowances, directions to bag drop, departures and gate locations thanks to integration with Google indoor maps, and real-time gate and baggage belt push notifications complete with directions.

James Millett, easyJet’s Head of Digital, said: “Passengers can now relax in the airport without the need to keep checking screens waiting for flight and gate information to appear. As soon as the gate opens, the mobile host within our app will notify them and explain where the gate is.” He said Mobile Host is the “result of true collaboration” between easyJet and Gatwick Airport.

Michael Ibbitson, Chief Information Officer at Gatwick Airport, added: “For the last couple of years Gatwick has been investing heavily in its integration and data platforms to be able to provide key passenger information in real time to our airlines.

“The time and effort put into mapping the whole airport with indoor maps and streetview is really starting to pay off. easyJet is our biggest airline and it is great to come to market with such innovative solutions for our passengers with them.”
