Kansai Airports – part of the network of VINCI Airports (a Corporate Partner of the FTE Digital, Innovation & Startup Hub) – has announced the renovation of Terminal 2, the domestic area, at Kansai International Airport in preparation for future growth in air traffic.
Opened in October 2012, Terminal 2 is Japan’s first dedicated terminal for a low-cost carrier and is currently utilised for all domestic flights operated by Peach Aviation Limited. The renovation is scheduled to begin in August 2025 and end in spring 2026. It aims to enhance the passenger experience by promoting self-service check-in and expanding the boarding area, enabling a faster and more stress-free airport journey.
Kansai Airports Group will work closely with stakeholders to further enhance the airport’s role as a gateway to the Kansai region. The scope of renovation includes the installation of 10 self bag drop units, three smart security lanes, the renewal of waiting and commercial areas – the boarding area is to be expanded by approximately 20% – and more.
