Summary:

  • Changi Airports International partners with Sun Group to enhance Phu Quoc International Airport operations and passenger experience.
  • The airport’s expansion plans include a new runway and Terminal 2, targeting up to 24 million passengers annually.
  • The collaboration aims to position Phu Quoc as a world-class travel destination ahead of APEC 2027.

Changi Airports International (CAI) – a subsidiary of Changi Airports Group (a Headline Partner of APEX FTE EXPO Asia, Singapore, 18-19 November 2026) – and Sun Group have signed a strategic cooperation agreement  to support the development of Phu Quoc International Airport. Under the partnership, CAI will provide advisory services to enhance the airport operations, commercial programme, air connectivity, and capacity and service enhancements.

The partnership aims to transform Phu Quoc International Airport into a travel destination, delivering world-class service standards and a seamless travel experience ahead of the APEC 2027 Summit, when the airport is expected to welcome global leaders and international visitors.

“We are impressed by Sun Group’s vision for developing Phu Quoc as the next upcoming travel destination,” said Eugene Gan, Chief Executive Officer, CAI. “Its integrated tourism and entertainment ecosystem provides a strong foundation for the long-term development of Phu Quoc International Airport as a key gateway for the island. We look forward to contributing our expertise to enable Sun Group to create a world-class airport experience.”

The government-approved master plan includes a new runway and Terminal 2, projecting the airport to handle up to a capacity of 24 million passengers per year, scalable to 50 million in the long-term, supporting broader aviation and economic growth in the region.

Under the partnership, CAI will work with Sun Group to manage Phu Quoc International Airport according to international standards.

By bringing together the best of CAI’s airport management expertise and Sun Group’s destination development experience, the partnership aims to create a distinctive travel destination at Phu Quoc, where aviation infrastructure and tourism experiences are seamlessly integrated.

“Airports today play a far greater role than transportation infrastructure,” said Dang Minh Truong, Chairman, Sun Group. “They are gateways that shape the first impression of a destination. Singapore Changi Airport is widely recognised for its operational excellence and pioneering airport destination concept. Through this partnership with Changi Airports International, we aim to develop Phu Quoc International Airport into a true ‘airport destination’ where the travel experience begins the moment visitors arrive.”
