Alaska has become the first US airline to introduce inflight water service free of single-use plastic bottles and plastic cups.

The flight is part of the Etihad Greenliner Programme – a two-year partnership between Etihad and Boeing using the airline’s 787 fleet as a test bed for sustainability improvements.

The partnership will initially deploy ZeroAvia’s hydrogen-electric propulsion technology into a full-size De Havilland Q400 aircraft, capable of transporting 76 passengers.

A total of 42 easyJet flights from Gatwick Airport will be powered by a 30% blend of SAF, including all flights to Glasgow during COP26.

The new programme offers corporate customers options to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions either through purchasing carbon offsets or SAF.

The electric vehicle has the capacity to carry up to 110 customers and will operate between Bristol Airport’s terminal and the aircraft.

Switching to a more sustainable inflight serviceware has the potential to remove 28 million single-use plastic dishes and cutlery every year.

The three partners have selected Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport as the pilot airport for the deployment of hydrogen gas distribution.

SWISS has launched a new trial to offer customers unsold food items inflight at reduced prices, in a bid to minimise waste.

Air New Zealand and Airbus will collaborate on a joint research project to study the feasibility of flying hydrogen aircraft in New Zealand.

As part of the programme, British Airways has announced a collaboration with BP to explore the use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF).

oneworld member airlines will reach the target through initiatives such as fleet modernisation, advancing the use of SAF and carbon offsetting.

easyJet will be using Bristol Airport as a test-bed to trial the latest technological solutions for decarbonising operations and reducing waste.

Developed in collaboration with FORMIA, JetBlue’s new amenity kits feature a resealable interlock zipper, which makes them reusable post-flight.

The new uniform for cabin crew and pilots is made from around 45 recycled plastic bottles and has a 75% lower carbon footprint than traditional polyester.

LATAM has agreed to purchase a total of 70 A320neo aircraft as part of its plan to modernise and maximise fleet efficiency for the coming years.
