AirAsia is upgrading its Wi-Fi service, powered by ROKKI and GX Aviation, to provide high-speed in-flight connectivity to passengers.

According to Inmarsat, the new satellites, developed for its Global Xpress (GX) network, can transform inflight broadband capabilities for airlines.

Passengers onboard the new A321neo LR aircraft will be able to enjoy personalised HD entertainment, surround sound audio and video on-demand.

Thales’ connectivity portal and onboard Wi-Fi network will allow passengers to browse the internet, check social media and shop onboard.

Virgin Atlantic has announced that Inmarsat GX Aviation inflight broadband will be installed on the airline’s brand-new Airbus A350-1000 aircraft.

The new AirFi LEO product will enable basic web services such as online payments, real-time bookings and social media usage at 35,000 feet.

The two parties will be able to combine their services to offer broadband inflight connectivity paired with high-value solutions and services to airlines.
