Aeroporti di Roma – a Corporate Partner of the FTE Digital, Innovation & Startup Hub – has launched a project that turns passenger waiting time into an opportunity for exercise, wellbeing and social interaction at Rome Fiumicino Airport, with yoga, mini-golf and more.
Transforming waiting at the airport into quality time by bringing sport to an iconic travel hub is the objective of ‘Move and Fly’ – a project developed by ASI (Italian Sports and Social Associations) in collaboration with Aeroporti di Roma – which incorporates opportunities for physical activity into the passenger experience.
The project, in its initial trial phase, involves the installation of two areas – one for fitness and one for mini-golf – within the Departures areas of T1 and T3, where passengers will be able to turn waiting into an opportunity for exercise and feeling good.
Each station will have qualified instructors on hand, including English speakers, to guide passengers through the various activities. Special attention will also be given to the younger passengers. The sports stations will offer children an active alternative before their flight, encouraging them to interact with one another in a highly multicultural environment.
“A major global hub such as Rome Fiumicino is now increasingly called upon to offer passengers an experience that goes beyond the journey itself and makes the most of every moment spent at the airport,” said Marco Troncone, CEO, Aeroporti di Roma. “Bringing sport into the terminals in partnership with ASI means enhancing the quality of the waiting experience even further, introducing for the first time a new wellness opportunity that is consistent with our vision of an airport that cares for the thousands of travellers who pass through it every day.”
Claudio Barbaro, President, ASI, commented: “At the heart of ‘Move and Fly’ lies a clear vision: the airport is the symbol of travel, whilst sport is the symbol of movement. Bringing these two worlds together means offering passengers a new way to experience the wait, encouraging physical activity in what is traditionally a sedentary setting and promoting wellbeing, social interaction and a sense of community.”
