- Delivered by McNab in a live airport environment, the project aims to improve passenger comfort, baggage handling capacity and operational efficiency, with more than 2,300 people contributing to its delivery.
The next stage of Sunshine Coast Airport’s terminal transformation has been completed, with the airport’s new arrivals precinct and baggage claim officially opening. The opening marks another important milestone by providing a modern space for arriving passengers to collect their luggage.
“The new arrivals precinct and baggage claim is another significant milestone in the transformation of Sunshine Coast Airport, said Chris Mills, CEO, Sunshine Coast Airport. “Passengers arriving on the Sunshine Coast will now collect their bags in a modern, purpose-built space almost three times the size of our former arrivals and baggage claim area. The transformation features a 92-metre baggage carousel – almost double the size of the original, upgraded passenger amenity including new bathroom facilities, seating areas and a new efficient water-cooling system for the entire terminal. The longer carousel provides more room for passengers to comfortably collect their luggage, while allowing more bags to be delivered at any one time, creating a smoother and more efficient arrival experience.”
McNab CEO Kunjan Ganatra said delivering the new arrivals precinct and baggage hall within a live airport environment required careful planning and coordination since construction began in December 2025. “Working within an operating airport brings an added level of complexity, with construction needing to progress safely and efficiently while minimising disruption to passengers, airlines and day-to-day operations,” Mr Ganatra said. “That was achieved through great collaboration between our McNab team, Sunshine Coast Airport, airline partners, Ansir Systems, Planned Performance and our subcontractors, and it’s fantastic to now see that work translate into a much-improved arrivals experience for passengers. More than 2,300 people have already contributed to the delivery of this project with most trades and subcontractors coming from the Sunshine Coast region, so this really has been a case of locals building a better airport experience for their own community.”
