Miami International Airport and CLEAR have launched biometric eGates at two of the busiest passenger screening checkpoints ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 – a significant step in modernising with automation.

SOF Connect, operator of Sofia Airport, has launched a new automated boarding pass checking system in Terminal 2. The smart system includes the latest generation of IATA-compliant e-gates and software.

Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) is to deploy IDEMIA’s Passenger Flow Facilitation solution in nine South African airports, including a border clearance process using the latest e-Gates technologies.

The new touchpoints will make it easier to incorporate both contactless and biometric capabilities that will enable airports and airlines to evolve as processes modernise.

The new gates at Tom Bradley International Terminal feature enhanced Wi-Fi, touchscreen kiosks, biometrics and advanced baggage handling and boarding systems.

Tampa International Airport has become the latest US airport to announce the implementation of facial recognition biometrics technology.

Travellers from 74 countries can now use the biometric-enabled Smart Departure system when flying from Hong Kong International Airport.

The e-gates will be installed in terminals 1 and 2 at Dublin Airport, while a registered traveller programme could be introduced in the future.
