From 3 December, UK citizens will be able to apply to join the trusted traveller initiative, available at 46 US airports and 13 preclearance locations.

The US Preclearance programme could be expanded to 10 new airports, including Heathrow, Schiphol, Brussels, Narita, Istanbul and Stockholm Arlanda.

The installation of 92 SmartGates at Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Gold Coast, Cairns and Darwin airports will commence this summer.

The digital smart screens in the baggage reclaim hall include a “journey comparison generator”, which displays the various onward travel options.

The introduction of Global Entry kiosks at Lynden Pindling International Airport follows the recent installation of Automated Passport Control kiosks.

An additional 44 Automated Passport Control (APC) kiosks, including the first in the Central Terminal, will bring the total number at MIA to 80.
Following in the footsteps of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta and Miami international airports, Seattle-Tacoma Airport now offers Mobile Passport Control.

The rollout of Automated Passport Control, Mobile Passport Control, preclearance and digital departure cards is helping to expedite passenger processing.

Brisbane Airport is trialling a Digital Departure Card, which removes the need for international passengers to hand write the traditional Outgoing Passenger Card.
The “one-stop” customs process allows passengers to pick-up their checked bags before clearing the Customs and Border Protection checks in a single step.
US and Canadian travellers arriving in Miami can now use the Mobile Passport app to complete their customs declaration using their smartphone or tablet.

Sweden’s Stockholm Arlanda Airport could soon become the first airport in Scandinavia and just the third in Europe to offer the US preclearance service.
